Life in Vienna
In the heart of Europe
Vienna, in the heart of Europe
Situated in the heart of Europe at the crossroads of diverse cultural traditions from east and west, the city of Vienna has been a centre of learning for many centuries. Vienna, a university town since 1365, has an impressive cultural heritage and has been home to a remarkable concentration of innovative thinkers.
Klimt, Schiele, and Loos revolutionized the arts and architecture; Mahler, Schönberg, and Berg, music. Wittgenstein, Popper, and the Vienna Circle changed our ways of thinking and philosophy, as did Freud, Charlotte Bühler, and Alfred Adler in the field of psychology. Mach, Boltzmann, and Gödel revolutionized the natural sciences, while Schumpeter, Mises, and Hayek contributed to the theory of economics. The Literature of fin-de-siècle Vienna is associated with the names of Schnitzler, Werfel, and Zweig — to name but a few — ,as well as with that of the journalist and writer Theodor Herzl, who gained fame as a political visionary.
The location of the LBS provides easy access to the rich cultural and recreational offerings of Vienna and its environs. The surrounding neighborhood includes parks, recreational facilities with swimming pools, soccer fields and tennis courts that offer ample opportunities for sport and leisure activities. Vienna was and remains a cultural centre with many museums, historical attractions, and cultural events that include a lively contemporary arts and music scene.
