Jewish Heritage Fund Scholarship

RESPONSIBILITIES

The JHF scholarship depends primarily on ongoing, rather than past, performance. Therefore, in order to receive the scholarship, and in order to maintain it from one semester into the next, the recipient is expected

  • to actively participate in a course (3 hrs per week) of the Jewish Studies Program by attending at least 75% of the classes and successfully completing the course with a minimum grade of 60%.
  • to select and study Hebrew as an additional foreign language in the LBS language department (applicable only to BA students not fluent in Hebrew; fluency will be assessed orally by the Campus Rabbi prior to enrollment),
  • to maintain a GPA of 2.8 or better (assessed at each semester’s end, prior to retake exams, by the LBS administration). Each student is responsible for submitting her or his GPA scores to the Jewish Heritage Fund.

Falling short of any one of these three expectations will result in a reduction point that will cause the scholarship to be compromised in the following manner:

  • reduction point 1: the scholarship is reduced by 250 €;
  • reduction point 2: the scholarship is reduced by 500 €;
  • reduction point 3: the scholarship is cancelled (i.e. the student is dismissed from the residence and dining facilities).
  • If the recipient is within her or his final year of study (BA, MA or Magister):
    • reduction point 1: the scholarship is reduced by 750 €;
    • reduction point 2: the scholarship is cancelled. (Note that cancellation can take effect as soon as the student fails to show up to 25% of the classes.)
  • Please note:
    • 3 reduction points can be accrued within a single semester or over consecutive semesters.
    • Any given semester in which the student has a “clean record” will nullify 1 reduction point from previous semesters. E.g. if a student has accumulated 2 points by the end of the second semester, but passes the third semester without accumulating further points, then the student will have only 1 point in the fourth semester.
    • If a recipient neglects to elect Hebrew as an additional language in the LBS curriculum, the scholarship will be reduced by 1500 € annually.
